Add Serial Number While Receiving

This feature allows you to track each of your products individually through unique serial numbers, making it easier to manage your stock with greater accuracy and traceability.

Make sure your platform is ready to handle serialization. This means updating your system to recognize, store, and manage serial numbers for your products.
Do let the implementation team know about the Addition of Serial Number Enablement.

When you activate the serial number option in the product management settings, it becomes a requirement to include the serial number during the receipt of that particular product. However, if this option is not enabled, providing a serial number upon receiving the product remains optional.

Please be aware that this can only be enabled when the product has no existing inventory and there are no active receiving processes underway for the product.

When products arrive at your door, there's an extra step to add serial numbers:

  • During the receiving process, you'll be prompted to enter its serial number.

  • It's a bit like the process you're used to with batch or lot IDs, but this time it's for individual serial numbers.

You should be able to scan the serial number or add the same manually.

Avoiding Duplicate Serial Numbers

It's essential that serial numbers remain unique even under various scenarios:

  1. Receiving the same SKU with an identical serial number, prior to putaway, will trigger an error.

  2. Attempting to use a duplicate serial number for the same SKU after putaway has been completed will also result in an error.

Keep Serial Numbers Unique

Serial numbers serve as unique identifiers for your products. To maintain their uniqueness:

  • The system automatically checks for duplicate serial numbers upon entry.

  • If a duplicate is identified, you'll be prompted to enter a different serial number, ensuring each product remains unique.

Please Note:
Once the current stock is depleted (0 inbound followed by outbound), Serial IDs can be reused for new inventory receipts, facilitating continuous and efficient stock management.

Dealing with Different Units of Measure

To manage products packaged in larger quantities while maintaining individual serial numbers:

  • Serial numbers must correspond to the base unit of measure (UoM) of the product. In the event of a mismatch between the form factor and the base UoM, the system will generate an error.

  • The system will not automatically calculate the number of serial numbers required for a large unit composed of smaller units. Please ensure the serial numbers correspond to the base UoM.
