🔧 Enhancements

Automatic “No Prep Required” Assignment for Amazon FBA Products

We’ve shipped an improvement to how Amazon FBA prep instructions are handled during product sync.

Background:

Many Amazon FBA products have their prep category set to "UNKNOWN" or left empty on Amazon's side — typically when merchants haven't configured prep settings for their SKUs. During packing, associates had to manually set prep instructions for these products, adding friction to the workflow.

What's changed:

When we detect a product with UNKNOWN or empty prep and SELLER ownership, we now automatically do the following:

  1. Set the prep category to "No Prep Required" on Amazon

  1. Store the corrected values on the platform

This applies to both real-time product sync (SQS notifications) and scheduled product sync. Associates no longer need to manually handle prep for these SKUs during packing.

Important caveat:

This is a best-effort resolution. "No Prep Required" is the correct default for the majority of SKUs where merchants simply haven't configured prep. However, some SKUs may genuinely require prep (e.g., fragile items, liquids) that was never set up on Amazon. If you identify such products, please update the prep category directly on Amazon Seller Central; our system will pick up the corrected value on the next sync.

What's unaffected:

  • Products with valid prep already configured (e.g., FRAGILE, LIQUID)

  • Products where Amazon manages prep (AMAZON ownership)

No action is required on your end unless you identify SKUs that need specific prep.
