Barcode Scanner Setup

This guide will enable you to set up your barcode scanner to work with the Hopstack platform. As a customer, setting up your scanners with Hopstack is crucial to enable mission-critical features such as:

  • Scanning shipping labels

  • Scanning location codes

  • Scanning product codes such as SKU ID, FNSKU, etc.

Please note that the Hopstack currently does not actively support or maintain scanner enablement for non-Windows operating systems (ChromeOS, macOS, Linux, etc.)

If your organization requires such a use case, please specify this to your product expert during the prospecting process.

Most scanners should work in a plug-and-play manner with the system. Before going through with the rest of the guide, please connect your scanner and scan a barcode that is present in the Hopstack system. If it works, you don’t need to go through with the rest of the guide.

Steps for Setup

  1. Please connect the barcode scanner to the Windows computer you wish to set it up with.

  2. Download and install the barcode scanner drivers for your device. Please refer to this list to get a list of supported devices and their device drivers.

    1. If you are unable to find your device in that list, then your device is not natively supported by the Hopstack platform. Please search for your device drivers on the manufacturer’s website and install them on your computer.

    2. For installation, please refer to the on-screen instructions as shown on the installation screen.

  3. Restart your computer. This allows your system to complete any final steps of the installation process.

  4. Once your computer has started up again, unplug the USB receiver/cable that you used to connect your system to the scanner.

  5. Before plugging the scanner back in, please go to the device list and open the ‘Scanner Configuration Codes’ page of your respective scanner and keep it ready. Please note that this is highly device-specific and may not work for all devices. Make sure to open the link that matches your scanner’s make and model.

  6. Plug the receiver/cable back into your computer’s USB port and scan the configuration codes for your scanner in the prescribed order within 30 seconds.

  7. Once all the codes are scanned, your device should be reset and ready to communicate with the Hopstack platform

  8. Open the Hopstack platform and create a test consignment.

  9. Use the Role Switcher to go into receiving mode and open the receiving screen.

    1. Alternatively, you can also login using a user with the ASSOCIATE role.

  10. Scan any barcode around you to conduct a test. This could be a product code, location code, FNSKU, SKU, etc. Please do NOT scan any of the configuration codes that were used in the earlier stages of the process.

  11. The Hopstack window on your computer screen should show an output that contains the text contents of the barcode you just scanned.

If your configuration was successfully performed, the Hopstack screen should show a text output that contains the 10-13 digit code that was stored within the barcode.

If no such code is visible on your screen, then one of four things might have gone wrong:

  1. Your scanner is not supported by the Hopstack platform.

  2. The drivers may not have been properly installed OR the wrong drivers may have been installed.

  3. The scanner configuration codes may have been improperly scanned.

  4. The Hopstack companion app is out of date and does not support your scanner.

We request you to start troubleshooting in that order. If you need any assistance, please reach out to your product expert or implementation engineer.
