Batch Settings

Batch settings in Hopstack are designed to optimize the order-picking process, especially in scenarios requiring special operational needs.
By default, Hopstack employs a single-order, single-batch strategy.

However, if your operations require a more customized batching approach, these settings can be enabled.

To enable this feature, please contact your implementation engineer at Hopstack.

Accessing Batch Settings

  1. Navigate to Outbound Logistics:

    • Log in to your Hopstack dashboard.

    • Select the Outbound Logistics section from the main menu.

  2. Order Management:

    • Within the Outbound Logistics section, click on Order Management.

  3. Settings Icon:

    • In the Order Management view, locate the settings icon next to the Run Autobatching option. Click on this icon to access the batch settings.

Batch Settings Options

Batching Strategy

This dropdown menu allows you to choose how orders are grouped for picking.
The available options include:

  • Pick by Order: Each order is picked separately. This method is straightforward and easy to manage, especially for smaller operations.

  • Pick + Sort: Items for multiple orders are picked and sorted simultaneously. This method is efficient for larger operations with high order volumes as it reduces the need for separate sorting after picking.

  • Pick then Sort: All items for multiple orders are picked in a single run, then sorted by order afterward. This method can be useful for operations where sorting needs to be done separately to ensure order accuracy.

Minimum Batch-Size

This setting specifies the smallest number of orders required to form a batch. Setting a minimum batch size ensures that resources are used efficiently, and picking operations are not initiated for very small batches, which could be inefficient.

Maximum Orders Batch Sizes

This section allows you to define the maximum size of batches, depending on whether the orders are single-line or multi-line:

  • Max Batch-Size (Single-line): This defines the maximum number of single-line orders (orders with only one line item) that can be included in a batch. Setting an appropriate max size helps in managing bulk single-item orders efficiently.

  • Max Batch-Size (Multi-line): This defines the maximum number of multi-line orders (orders with multiple line items) that can be included in a batch. This setting ensures that batches remain manageable and do not become too large, which could slow down the picking process for complex orders.

Row Increments

This setting defines the pattern of row increments in your warehouse layout.
For example, an increment of 2 means that the picking sequence will skip every other row (e.g., rows 1 → 3 → 5 → 7).
This helps in planning the picking route, minimizing travel time, and optimizing the picking path.

Number of Adjacent Rows

This setting specifies the number of rows to consider on either side of the current row being evaluated for batching. Including adjacent rows helps in creating larger and more efficient batches by expanding the scope of order consolidation.
This reduces the occurrence of smaller batches and improves overall picking efficiency.

Implementing Batch Settings

Once these settings are configured, future picking batches will be created according to these parameters. This ensures that your order fulfillment process is optimized for your specific operational needs, balancing efficiency and manageability.
